“Speaking [being] the truth [alētheuō] in love, we will grow to become [auxanō] in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” (Ephesians 4:15 NIV)
The Greek word alētheuō means to be the truth, or more literally, exude the truth. (Being the truth transcends speaking the truth in that being the truth includes speaking the truth and so much more.) Therefore: Every judgment made, every word spoken, every action taken, every attitude assumed, every possible lifestyle component we manifest, along with every fiber of our earthly existence should not be about judging our earthly foes, but rather be founded upon being the truth in love.
Now here is where the rubber and the road meet: “we will grow to become [auxanō] in every respect the mature body of him”. The Greek word auxanō means “growth from within without compulsion”. The simple fact is that all the outside force in the world will not cause the baby to grow. In other words, feed the baby what it needs and it easily grows without any outside force supplied. “Being the Truth in Love” is the food and the resulting growth is becoming “in every respect the mature body of him”.
